24MP Front Facing Camera In iPhone 17
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that one of the improvements in the next iPhone’s front-facing camera will be a major one. The new models will have twenty-four megapixels in their front cameras, which is twice lower than that of the iPhone 14 or 15. The increased pixel count will enable greater sharpness of photos taken in portrait mode, including small areas such as eyes or lips, because it does not lose any information at all after cropping or magnification
Apart from an increase in resolution, the new 6-element lenses are one step ahead of the 5-element ones that were found in earlier versions of iPhones too(iPhone 17 will use them). This type of lens design has been created so as to minimize distortion and increase the amount of light passing through it; hence, it will improve on its low-light capability.
previous iPhone models featured:
- iPhone 6S: 5-megapixel front camera with ƒ/2.2 aperture and 4P lens
- iPhone 7, iPhone X, and iPhone XS: 7-megapixel front camera with ƒ/2.2 aperture and 4P lens
- iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13: 12-megapixel front camera with ƒ/2.2 aperture and 5P lens
- iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 16: 12-megapixel front camera with ƒ/1.9 aperture, autofocus, and 5P lens
- iPhone 17: 24-megapixel front camera with autofocus and 6P lens
It is also expected that the iPhone 17 Pro will be the first model to introduce under-panel Face ID technology that can make the Dynamic Island smaller. Still, the circular cutout for a front-facing camera will probably stays. All these indicate that this may no longer be continued beyond this generation unless all the 2027 “Pro” models by Apple will have under-display cameras for a fully edgeless presentation.
